As a volunteer, what do I need to know?
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
- What is Jesus Prom anyway? Jesus Prom is a dance for our mid-Missouri friends with disabilities (age 13 to 100!). A night for us to celebrate them in a fun atmosphere. Be ready to experience limo rides, pictures, food, games, dancing, and the love of Jesus. We rely on support and donations from the community to make this happen each year.
- Where is this event located? Ninth Street Christian Church is the host of the event. It is located at 1009 McKinley Drive Eldon, MO 65026.
- Why do I need to pre-register? Jesus Prom is a large event, and we need to ensure that all duties are covered and that each prom attendee has a buddy. We also need to have a count of how many people will be in the building due to fire safety codes.
- I already registered, and now my plans have changed. What should I do? Hopefully you have cleared your schedule and committed to this long-awaited day, but if for any reason you can't make it after all, please notify us immediately. We will need to find a replacement volunteer to cover your assigned duty. Call the church office at 573- 392-4685 or send an email to [email protected].
- Can I bring my family? We need all the volunteers we can get! Please invite your family members to pre-register individually. However, we can only accept volunteers in 6th grade and up. Child care is not provided by the event, so please make arrangements for your younger family members.
- What time frame am I committing to? All volunteers can expect to be present the day of Jesus Prom beginning at 3:30pm and ending at 9:00pm.
- What if I want to volunteer, but can not commit to that time frame in some way? If you know that you will not be able to be present for the entirety of the evening, please do not register to volunteer. This will cause gaps/shortages in help, as well as confusion. Each volunteer has a specific duty assigned to them, and if you are not present, that duty is not being taken care of.
- What does a buddy do? A buddy is the job title of the majority of our volunteers. This is someone who will be a prom attendee's partner for the evening. This may include dancing, eating, playing games, sitting in the quiet room, etc. You are the one that ensures the prommer is having a fantastic time. This is the coolest experience ever- you will be so blessed!
- What if I know who I want to buddy up with ahead of time? That's great! The best thing you can do is to be ready and waiting for your person to arrive at the door. We will have a separate buddy line just for those of you who know who you are going to be paired up with.
- What should I wear? As a volunteer, you will be on your feet most of the time, so wear comfortable shoes. Jeans and your Jesus Prom T-shirt will be fine, or you can choose to dress according to our theme in fun, colorful attire/costumes. (You may quickly change into your T-shirt upon arrival).
- What should I bring with me? Due to the nature of the evening, you should leave all personal possessions in your vehicle. No bags or purses will be allowed for volunteers, as we cannot ensure their security. You may choose to carry your cell phone and your car keys, of course. You will not need money except for the purchase of your Jesus Prom T-shirt if you choose. Also, bring your smile, and a fun, loving attitude!!!
- Do I have to purchase a T-shirt? No, but it is greatly appreciated, as the $15 you pay will not only cover the cost of your shirt, but the cost of a prommer's T-shirt too. You will receive and pay for the shirt upon arrival to the event. You may choose to wear it or take it to your vehicle.
- Where should I park? Because of the growing popularity of this event, parking space is becoming more limited. Please carpool with other volunteers or get dropped off if at all possible.
